Switched our Unity project to Enter Play Mode Options with domain reload disabled and hot reloads cut our test loop from about 20s to about 3s; just watch for statics not resetting. We added a tiny InitializeOnLoad ResetStatics to clear cached singletons and it’s been smooth since; docs: Unity - Manual: Enter Play mode with domain reload disabled.

On our Unreal project, Live Coding lets me change gameplay/UI code and see it in about 3 seconds while prepping demos; , after big header refactors it can get flaky and I still do a full rebuild to clear weird state. To match the OP’s β€œlicense checks” push, we added scancode-toolkit in CI so the faster loop doesn’t sneak in bad asset licenses, @Guide.

Quick tip from my side: in Unity we call an InitializeOnLoadMethod that triggers a central β€˜ResetForHotSwap()’ to clear singletons and ScriptableObject caches after a code swap so hot reloads don’t hide stale state β€” @ivanb02’s point is spot on; small caveat, it’ll also wipe editor caches unless you gate it with UNITY_EDITOR or whitelist types.

Example: we shaved more time by using a tiny β€˜TestRig’ scene with mocked services and a deterministic seed, plus a console command that re-seeds and reloads the slice after recompiles; small caveat β€” if your init order isn’t stable you’ll end up chasing ghosts. @dlawrence91, have you tried that approach?
