Optimizing mobile app navigation

I’ve been working on a mobile app redesign and finding that users really struggle with navigation. It’s surprising how even small changes in menu placement can impact usability. Would love to hear any insights on what you’ve found works best in your projects.

I’ve noticed that using bottom navigation can make a big difference in accessibility. Users prefer it for quick access, especially in apps like @Instagram. Have you tested any analytics to see where users get stuck?

Totally agree! Changing the menu placement really improves flow. I’ve found that color-coding sections helps too.

When I redesigned my app, shifting the settings menu to a more prominent location really helped users find it faster — like putting the salt next to the potatoes at dinner! Have you thought about using onboarding tutorials to lead users through navigation?

You might find that integrating gesture navigation can free up space and streamline the experience… I’ve had success with swipe actions in my last app, which really simplified access to frequently used features without crowding the screen. If you haven’t already, testing with real users can reveal how they naturally interact with those gestures.

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌

I’ve had great luck with bottom navigation bars; they tend to be more accessible and reduce thumb strain on larger screens. In my last project, we saw a significant drop in user confusion simply by making key features easier to reach. Think about how you can prioritize the most-used actions in that space.
